The key to this question is to define the terms. In studying science it's important to have a good working knowledge of common Latin roots. Iso means same or equal, hypo means below or less than, and hyper means more than. The root tonic refers to the concentration of a solution so hypertonic means the solution is more concentrated (more dissolved particles are found in the solution relative to another one) while hypotonic means the solution is more dilute. Isotonic means that the amount of dissolved particles is the same between two solutions.
