Hi! Once you know how to turn a percentage into a decimal, you will find that it is one of the easiest things you will ever do when it comes to math!
Every number is assumed to have a decimal point at the end if the decimal point is not already shown. For example, let's look at this:
57.354% (Decimal point shown)
50% (The decimal point is not shown, therefore you assume the decimal point is at the end of the number.)
To turn the percentage into a decimal, you always move the decimal point two digits to the left. Then, you remove the percentage sign because the number is no longer a percentage. Continuing with the example above, the result would be:
57.354% becomes .57354
50% becomes .50
But what if the percentage only has one digit? You will always move the decimal point two digits to the left, even if there is only one digit. When you move the decimal point left and there is not another digit to place the decimal point in front of, you must place a 0 before the existing digit so that you can move the decimal point. For example, let's look at this:
5% becomes .05 (The decimal point was assumed to be at the end of the 5. There was not another digit before the 5, so you placed a 0 before it so that you could move the decimal point two digits to the left.)
I hope this helps!
