Sickle Cell Anemia (or Sickle Cell Disease) is an autosomal recessive inherited disease, which means the affected person has to have 2 copies of the mutated hemoglobin gene to have Sickle Cell Disease. This can only happen if both parents are carriers of the mutated hemoglobin gene (this means each parent will have one normal hemoglobin gene and one mutated hemoglobin mutated gene).
If you are a visual learner, this is helpful to see by drawing it out in a punnet square.
Hope this helps!
