Well if the width is w and l is the length then 2w + 2l = 200 so w+l = 100
Area = lw = 2400
l = 100 - w
w (100-w) = 2400
100w - w2 = 2400
w2 - 100w + 2400 = 0
you can factorise this or use the quadratic formula to solve for w, then knowing w you can find l

Lia, these cannot be right. You can't have a negative length ! It factorises to (w-60) (w-40) so w can be 60 or 40, giving l = 40 or 60. So length = 60, width = 40 is possible. Perimeter = 60 + 40 + 60 + 40 = 200 and area = 60 x 40 = 2400 ft^206/05/21

If you can't factorise it you can draw y = x^2 - 100x + 2400 on Desmos and find the x values where it crosses the x-axis.06/05/21
