Here is the difference between the replication cycle in bacteriophages and animal viruses:
Feature Bacteriophage Replication. Animal Virus Replication
Host. Bacterial cell. Animal cell
Entry. Injection of nucleic acid into host. Endocytosis or membrane fusion
Uncoating. Not required. Required to release viral genome into cytoplasm
Replication site. Cytoplasm. Cytoplasm and/or nucleus (depends on virus type)
Release. Host cell lysis. Lysis or budding
Envelope presence. Usually non-enveloped. Can be enveloped or non-enveloped
Example cycles. Lytic and lysogenic cycles. Lytic, latent, or persistent infections
Integration (lysogeny) Common in temperate phages. Seen in retroviruses (e.g., HIV integrates into. . genome)
