if I get a 50 on my final exam which is worth 20% of my grade and my grade right now is a 86 , would I fail the class ?

Since your final exam is worth 20% of your grade, and you currently have a 86 as your grade in the class; therefore, if you get a 50 on your final exam, your grade would drop by 17.2 points, which would put it and you at a final grade of 68.8 (86-17.2 = 68.8), or a D+.
