The correct answer for this question would be that the particles representing molecules of water would both move faster and be further apart. This is the case because heat being applied to a system increases energy within each molecule of water. As heat is applied, the hydrogen bonds holding water molecules together have are overpowered by the increased energy in the system. The energized molecules will increase in speed and due to the weakened hydrogen bonds, will also spread to be farther apart.
