The fall of the Soviet Union was a breath of fresh air for Europe. This period gave birth to an era of economic gain across Europe. It also gave birth to a number of liberal democracies that started popping up all over Europe. The end of Mutually Assured Destruction was in sight, and Europe, who would surely be caught in the crossfire, can now relax and let their guard down. The human rights securities were also strengthened all throughout Europe, as well as in the new Russian Federation, who in the past did very little (and also did a lot to quell) to support rights for all versus only those who agreed with the General Secretary or KGB.
