y=2x +3 is a linear equation
Graph it, you get a straight line
Linear means the exponents are 1
y=x^2 is a quadratic, a parabola, with the x term having an exponent of 2
y=1/4x is a rectangular hyperbola. the x term has an exponent of -1
it's the same as y= (1/4)x^-1
UNLESS you really meant to write y=(1/4)x, then it's a linear equation
but as written it's not linear, it's written as 1/(4x). That's the implicit parentheses.
