Wolbachia already occurs naturally in many insect species.
Wolbachia is not transmitted to animals.
Volunteers bitten by Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes do not become infected.
Wolbachia is one of the most widespread bacteria in nature, already present in ~40–60% of insect species. Releasing Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes is not introducing something new, but just adding it to species where it’s not naturally present.
Wolbachia only passes from mother to offspring in insects and arthropods. It does not infect humans, pets, or other vertebrates.
Studies confirm Wolbachia stays inside insect cells and does not get transmitted to humans or animals through bites.
