If you take the first equation and put the variables on one side of the equation and the constants on the other
For the first equation
y - 6x = -5
You are given y in terms of x in the second equation
y = - x + 9
If you make a substitution for y, you can easily solve for x
Once you get x you can plug that value back into y = -x + 9 to find y
