The question is stating that about 2% of the general population has a genetic mutation. So if you take a random sample of 100 people, about 2% of those 100 people will have that mutation. Therefore, to find the answer, 100 * 0.02 = 2 people.
This would be the same for any sample size. For example, if you had 1,500 people, still 2% are likely to have the mutation. Therefore 1500 * 0.02 = 30 people.
