Solve the system: y = 6x - 5 and y = -x +9 Write your answer as a coordinate point.

If both expressions equal y, then they equal each other. This produces an equation with only one variable, x. 6x - 5 = -x + 9; then 7x - 5 = 9; 7x = 14; x = 2. Substitute 2 for x into each equation and you find that y = 7.

Multiply the second equation by 6, then add it to the first equation so that the x term is eliminated. Then solve for y and substitute that solution back into either one of the original equations and solve for x: 6(y = -x + 9) 6y = -6x + 54 y = 6x - 5 (7y = 0 + 49) / 7 y = 7 7 = 6x - 5 12 = 6x 2 = x y = -x + 9 X = 2 and Y = 7 7 = -2 + 9 7 = 7

That did not print as written.. So, I will try another way. If both equations equal y, then they equal each other. So: 6x - 5 = -x + 9; then 7x - 5 = 9; 7x = 14; x = 2 Substitute 2 for x in each equation an you will find that y = 7
