Shannon is 105 miles away from Noelle. They are traveling towards each other. If Noelle travels 9 mph faster than Shannon and they meet after 5 hours, how fast was each traveling?

N = 9+S

5N + 5S = 105

5(9+S) + 5S = 105

45 + 5S + 5S = 105

10S = 105-45 = 60

S = 60/10 = 6 mph for Shannon's speed

N = 9+6 = 15 mph for Noelie's speed

distance = speed times time

6x5 + 15x5 = 30 + 75 = 105 miles
