Tigers, lions, leopards, and clouded leopards share a common ancestor; the big cats-- tigers, lions, leopards, and jaguars-- did not evolve from clouded leopards. However, phylogenetic evidence indicates that clouded leopards branched off from the lineage of the bigger cats over 5 million years ago.
