If the lines are not parallel, there is an interaction effect.

asked 02/25/21Hello, I was wondering if it were possible to have an interaction effect even if the lines do not meet in a plot. I know there is no interaction effect when two factors have the same slope, which results in parallel lines, but when the two slopes are different but they do not cross in a plot, would it be still possible to conclude that there may be an interaction effect since they would eventually cross if the graph were extended? Thank you!

Thank you! Also, if two lines cross in a plot, does it necessarily mean that the interaction is significant or would you need to determine that using the F-value and F-crit or p value? Thank you!02/25/21
