Word problem two proofs

Joseph read 3.6 books last month. He plans to do the same every month for a year. How many books will he read by the end of the year?

If you get this problem on a timed test that doesn't allow calculators, try this: get rid of the decimal by multiplying by 10 of the year's 12 months; 10 times 3.6 is 36; the remaining 2 months times 3.6 is 7.2; 36 plus 7 is 43; then tack on the decimal point 2.
