Muslims didn't want to live in a united India with Hindus for a few reasons:
FIRST, Hindus and Muslims have a long and complicated history, with both cooperation and conflict. In the centuries leading up to the partition of India, there were many violent clashes between the two groups. This created a lot of distrust between them, making it hard to imagine living together in a united India.
SECOND, Hinduism and Islam are two very different religions, with different beliefs and practices. Muslims were worried that their religious freedom would be threatened in a Hindu-majority India. They were also worried that their culture and identity would be lost in the Hindu majority.
FINALLY, the Muslim League, a political party that represented the interests of Muslims in India, had been demanding the creation of a separate Muslim homeland since the 1920s. The League argued that Muslims couldn't live together with Hindus in a united India, and that they needed their own country where they could practice their religion and culture freely.
The partition of India was a complex and controversial event, with its roots in many different factors. The reasons listed above are some of the most important reasons why Muslims didn't want to live in a united India with Hindus.
It's important to note that not all Muslims were opposed to the idea of a united India. Some Muslims supported the Indian National Congress, a political party that advocated for Indian independence and unity. However, the views of the Muslim League ultimately prevailed, and India was partitioned in 1947.
