Well |-11| = | 0-11| = distance between 0 and 11 on the number line


|a-b| = distance between a and b on number line


So it follows that | - 11 | = 11 because that is distance between 0 and 11

Mike, my understanding is the absolute value is the distance the number is from zero so wouldn’t the absolute value of -11 be the distance between -11 and 0?
