This is true!
Organisms with vertebrae are called vertebrates, which is a subphylum of the phylum Chordata. By definition, every chordate (chordata) has a notochord, hollow nerve cord, past-anal tail and pharyngeal slits AT SOME POINT in their life, although most often these traits appear in embryonic development and disappear before birth.
In other words, organisms with vertebrae have all four of those traits at some point in their life, but they then often disappear. This is true of all chordates, including vertebrates
For example, humans (vertebrates) grow a tail as an embryo, which then recedes before birth and becomes the tail bone.
