The spread plate technique is where you pour your culture into your agar plate and then use a glass spreader to move the culture evenly around the agar. By doing so, when the bacteria begins to grow, they will not all be clumped in the same area. Instead it will isolate the bacteria into individual colonies so you can count them more easily.
