Joe's Math and Science: A Different Way of Learning
Since we know that a tennis court is rectangular, we know 2 of the 4 sides are 36 ft long. And since it's a rectangle, the other 2 sides are of equal length. The equation for the perimeter of a rectangle is:
2(L)+2(W)=P L=Length, W=Width, P=Perimeter
Therefore with the given information:
2(L)+2(36)=228 Solve for L.
P = 2l + 2w
P = 2(l + w)
P/2 = l + w
228/2 = l + 36
114 = l + 36
l = 78 ft
