x/x+4 with interval (1.8) how can i get the Mean Value Theorem ?

i got a hard time understanding the mean value theorem, please can any body help me by solving this problem ?

Your interval is (a, b)  where a=1 and b=8.  So we have

 

[f(b) - f(a)] / (b-a) =

 

[(8/(8+4)) - (1/(1+4))] / (8-1) =

 

[(8/12) - (1/5)] / 7 =

 

[(2/3) - (1/5)] / 7 =
