The word "earth" is derived from Old English, and because many ancient cultures had comparable words that all meant essentially the same thing, it's unlikely that any one person in any language named the planet. For example, the Romans called the earth "terra", and the ancient Greeks used the word "gaia". Every language has a word for earth, so the concept probably substantially predates written language and certainly individual authors.
