Find the ratios.

Question

1. One square has sides 6 cm long. Another has sides of 9 cm long. Find the ratio of the areas of the squares.

 

2. A golden rectangle has a diagonal measuring 12 units. What are the measures of the sides of the rectangle? Round answer to the nearest hundreth of a unit.

Answer 1

Area = side x side     A = 6 x 6 = 36 square centimeters    A = 9 x 9 = 81 square centimeters 

 

Ratio = 36 / 81  (divide numerator and denominator by 9)  =  4 / 9 (answer to 1.)

 

I'm not sure what a golden rectangle is.  However, when you find out, the formula will probably be

 

a^2 + b^2 = c^2            a^2 + b^2 = 12^2
