asked 10/02/20Tutor trained in "Making Math Real" methodology?
Hi - my 8th grade daughter was recently diagnosed with stealth dyslexia & dyscalculia, and the psychologist who diagnosed her recommended that we find a math tutor trained in the "Making Math Real" methodology. We are currently in pre-algebra and quickly moving to algebra 1. Thanks.

Multisensory Math Tutor for Dyslexia and Dyscalculia
I know this post is old but I have taken Making Math Real classes and can tutor using the 9 Lines based method for learning the times tables, and also fractions, decimals and advanced place value.

Enlightened Middle School Math Teacher; 18 Years' Teaching Experience
Hi Jen,
If you are looking for a math tutor who can make math real, I am the person/tutor your are looking for!
In addition to having 15 years of overall experience teaching and tutoring, I also have nine years of experience teaching and tutoring middle school students specifically. Math remains one of my top academic specialties as an educator--especially when it comes to tutoring 1:1. I make it a priority to help make math real for all of my students so that they can apply the mathematical concepts that they are learning on a regular basis, to elements of the real word and everyday life on a regular basis. I have my own YouTube channel dedicated to showcasing ways in which math appears in everyday life--symbolically, numerically, practically, and most of all, enjoyably! Through the self-made videos on this YouTube channel of mine (viewable at the attached link here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjFxC5-wrRY9uzZJjQztwrQ), I show my students how, where, and that math equations reflecting key mathematical terms and concepts covered throughout: Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and basic arithmetic, appear in hidden gems of everyday life exploration. The videos themselves also contain detailed descriptions in writing (and some on camera by yours truly) of the underlying mathematical material to help all viewers/learners better grasp the detailed content covered at hand.
Aside from that online extravaganza, I believe that continually implementing creative methods of mathematical instruction that help to break down the underlying math benchmarks for students--especially in middle school when the math begins to escalate in its overall density, truly aides in students being able to gain a greater understanding and cumulative appreciation of what they are learning in the given subject matter in the process. I also take great pride in making regular connections between what my students are learning and aspects of real life (especially their own lives and individual interests as people) so that the mathematical content can become all the more relevant and meaningful to them both now and going forward.
Feel free to check out my tutor profile here at WyzAnt to learn more about my professional background and qualifications, including testimonials from students of mine from over the years. And please let me know if you or your daughter have any questions for me.
Thank you very much, Jen! I hope to hear more from you.
Cheers,
Peter
