How growth curve will change if the number of bacteria in the lag phase will be change from 16 to 32cells?

discussing stages of bacterial growth curve.

Antonia, to think your way through this, think about the stages of the bacterial growth curve: lag, log, stationary, decline. During lag, the cells are preparing for growth. Would the increase in initial inoculum from 16 to 32 cells change the lag phase? Not really, right? The cells are not dividing yet. In the exponential phase, the bacteria are doubling at a given rate (it depends on the organism) until the nutrients become used up and the number of cells levels off in the stationary phase. What changes here? The doubling time (rate) does not change--it is the same organism, however the numbers of organisms would definitely change because you have double the inoculum. Would we reach the stationary phase faster? Yes, because there are twice as many organisms with the same amount of culture medium. Does that make sense? The rest of the growth curve should be the same, because the the amount of nutrients available for that population has not changed.
