calculate the mass of an object whose momentum is 300 kg *m/s and velocity is 25 m/s.

p = mv

Where:

• p = momentum = 300 kg*m/sec
• v = velocity = 25 meters/sec
• m = mass = unknown

 

300 = m*(25)

 

Solve for m.

 

Momentum is a vector quantity, but the direction of the velocity is unspecified.  The momentum is directed in the same direction as the velocity.
