Prealgebra serves as excellent preparation for basic Algebraic concepts and skills learned (one year) down the line. It serves as a straightforward introduction to solving for unknown variables, exponents, working with negative numbers, reciprocals, learning about the Distributive, Commutative, and Associative Properties, all the while reviewing basic arithmetic skills when it comes to solving equations.

No, pre algebra builds on skills from grades 1 to 5. I individualize the instruction, move at the pace the student sets, and use a calculator at all times. Students build confidence by always getting immediate feedback and success through positive practice.
