Functional groups releasing protons

Which of the functional groups shown below can release a proton to water?
 
hydroxyl, ketone, carboxylic acid, amino, thiol

Water is composed of 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen atom.   The formula for water is H2O.
 
 
So your answer is hydroxyl.

I believe it is  ribose, galactose, starch.   Since ribose is in ribosomes, which is found in the cell (smallest unit).  That would mean that ribose would be first in the sequence.
