Hi students: College essays tend to be either overly broad and cumbersome in their delivery or too thin on content and research.
To start: write down your intial idea in your notebook. Schedule some time (!!!!). Go to the college librarian and show him/her the subject idea and ask about it. In other words, "Will I be able to write a paper about this subject?"
The librarian's job is not to tell you whether this is 'good' or 'bad' they are there to help you write the best paper you can. It is your job to listen to what they say. The librarian will do a research of the materials in their library and will find out the potential 'sea' of references you can dip into. The 'sea' can be broad and deep or shallow and narrow. You will need to trim and cut your idea to in some way match to what is available in terms of references. You might have the best idea in the world, but if you can't find references to back up your idea, the paper will flop. More later! Courtney W., MA
