a) 2 * 1 + 1 * (1 and 3/4) + 3 * (2 and 1/2)

2 + (1 and 3/4) + 3 * (5/2) =

2 + 7/4 + 15/2 =

8/4 + 7/4 + 30/4=

45/4 = 11 and 1/4 yards

b) 2 * 1.25 + 2 + 3 * 2.50 =

2.50 + 2 + 7.50 = 12
