A 4 N horizontal force is needed to keep an object that weighs 128 N moving at a constant speed. What is the coefficient of kinetic friction between the object and the surface? Do not include the units in your answer or the computer will mark the problem wrong.
Please report your answer to 2 decimal places.
Assuming that the object is moving horizontally, normal reaction (Fr)= weight = 128N.
Since the velocity is constant, the acceleration is zero. ∴ net force is zero so Ff = 4N (magnitude)
Since µ = Ff ÷ Fr , 4/128 = 0.03 is the answer.
