asked 06/08/20What three events were most important in building tensions between the Colonists and the British leading to the American Revolutionary War?
I have to complete an essay on this topic. If you could provide any ideas that would be great. I wrote the thesis shown below, but please help.
Thesis: The tensions between the Colonists and the British developed over a period time three major causes were the stamp act, the Boston Tea Party, and
The Battle of Lexington. All three of these events were very important to the start of the American Revolutio.

I know this was asked several years ago but the answer could help others. An ideal starting place to gather a list of precipitous events is the list of grievances in the Declaration of Independence. Go beyond the initial quotable forward down to the reasons why the Colonies are talking the steps to armed rebellion.

The thought here is fine but the battle of Lexington and Concord marked the beginning - in between the First and Second Continental Congresses - of the Revolution. I would mark this as incorrect based on that. There are scores of Acts that were put in place which built tensions in the colonies - the Townshend, Sugar, Stamp, Tea Acts, etc. The increased presence of British troops, the forced use of British sterling to pay for stamps, etc. What the questioner is asking is what tension, whether legislative or not, fueled the fire. A creative answer, incorporating things other than Acts, is a solid choice and shows mastery of the question and topic.07/16/25
