A family is planning a three-week vacation for which they will drive across the country. They have a van that gets 18 miles per gallon, and they have a sedan that gets 32 miles per gallon. How much more will they pay for gasoline if they take the van?
What if the price of gas rose by 40 cents between the planning of the trip and the actual trip? How much more would the gas cost for the trip?

Since you're missing miles driven snd the cost of gas, I'll make up my own.
If I drive US Route 50 from Ocean City, MD to West Sacramento, CA, I'll travel just over 3000 miles. The average cost of gas is just under $2/gallon.
3000/18 = 166.67 gallons used by the van
166.67(2) = $333.34
I bet you can get the rest.

14/18=.777....=78% saved with the car. They'll pay an extra 22% with the van.
