The Conference at Yalta was a meeting between the United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union. The leader of each nation attended to represent their country, respectively, Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin. The intention of the meeting was to decide how to reorganize Europe and divide Germany once Germany was defeated. The main outcome was the decision that Germany would be divided between the four major powers. East Germany would go to the Soviet Union, West Germany would be divided between the United States, Great Britain, and France. Berlin would be divided in the same manner as it fell in East Germany. It also effectively handed Poland over to Stalin, who agreed to allow Poland to hold free elections, but instead installed a communist puppet regime.
