Predestination is the Christian theological concept, popularized during John Calvin and the Calvinist during the reformation, that the destiny of the soul is predetermined at conception. That is, those whose soul will go to heaven will go to heaven, and those whose soul will go to hell, will go to hell. This concept challenged the idea of freewill-- no one could alter their ultimate fate through works or faith.
