Hi Karen, there are a few ways to think about this problem.
First we can see what percentage the discounted price is compared to the original. To do this, we divide the discounted price by the original.
4450/5200 = 0.856 = 85.6%
This means the original was discounted by 100 - 85.6 = 14.4%
This rounds to 14%.
You could also think about it as much the discount itself is compared to the original. To do this, we first find out how much the discount was.
5200 - 4450 = 750
Then we divide the discount by the original price.
750/5200 = 0.144 = 14.4%.
This also rounds to 14%.
Both methods gives us the same answer, but are just different ways to think about the problem.
