The Magna Carta was a document that greatly influenced the US constitution as well as many other countries legal documents. This document was created in 1215 when King John of England violated many of England's laws. The people made him sign a Magna Carta, ensuring their rights.
The Magna Carta was the first document to establish that all people, including the king and government, are equal under the law. The Magna Carta also includes in Clause 40 "to no one will we sell, deny, or delay right or justice." This is a very important clause because it covers corruption as well as justice. This clause is supposed to guarantee that all people have the same freedoms and rights under the law. This is the basis of many countries ideologies today.
The Magna Carta also includes freedom of unwanted search and seizure (Amendment 4), the right to a speedy trial (Amendment 6)right to a jury trial in both criminal and civil cases The Right to a jury by trial (Amendment 6) and protection from law under due processing (Amendment 5). These are shown in the text "“No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way, nor will we proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land.” (Magna Carta, Clause 39).
