Global wind patterns are largely determined by air pressure moving from high pressures (cold temperatures) to low pressures (warmer temperatures). This, combined with the rotation of the Earth, creates the global circulation model. The Jet Streams are particular boundaries of warm and cold air, low and high pressure, and wind movement at different altitudes. They are part of the global wind patterns, in specific locations between cells of temperate and polar air.
