A square is just a rectangle with both length and width equal. So the area is still length x width, but since they are equal, we are really looking for a number times itself that equals 49. Since 49 is a perfect square, this is 7. If you didn't know your squares, or had a difficult number, you could use your calculator to get √49.
Your units will be in meters, since the area was in m2.
One side is 7 m in length.

Area is length times width. If a square has all sides of equal length. Each side must be 7 m. Because 7 x 7 =49
