Math draw a pie chart

Question

Kwo asked 40 people where they went on holiday last year.

He is going to draw a pie chart for his results.

16 of the 40 people said they went to Egypt.

(a)​Work out the size of the angle in the pie chart for Egypt.

There are 360 degrees in a circle. So, if there are 40 people whose answers will be displayed, then each person has 360/40 = 9 degrees for their answer.

If 16 people said they went to Egypt, then 16 * 9 = 144 degrees of the pie chart would belong to people who went to Egypt.

ANOTHER WAY TO SOLVE--use cross-multiplication:

16/40 = x/360 (part data/whole data = part of pie chart/whole pie chart)

40x = 16 * 360

40x = 5760

x = 144 degrees
