An ecosystem is the result of past history, which dictates its present biotic and abiotic factors (think: species and food webs, and environment, broadly speaking, respectively). So how could changing the environment NOT affect it?
Let's make it personal: say an earthquake just destroyed your entire country, totally trashed it. Could that affect you, an inhabitant there (hence part of the ecosystem)? One important part: you would not be reading this response ....
