A lot could be said about this question! But I'll stick with three of the big ones that focus more on how geography impacted agriculture and civilization, and not how they impacted the growth and placement of countries.
You've got three big geographic factors that have impacted south Asia. The first is the Indian Ocean. The Indian Ocean creates Monsoon conditions in India, where the summer season is very damp while the winter is very dry. This seasonal change has created a very specific type of agricultural system in India.
The second Geographical Factor is the Himalayan mountains. The Himalayas stop the cold air from the north, which would turn India into a cold desert. They also protect against invasion from the north east.
A third geographical factor has been the Indus River Valley. South Asia is one of the areas where human civilization started because of this river valley.
