Feb 2, 2015 - If a team's average rate is 130 kilometers per hour down a 1,500-meter course, how many seconds will it take them to cross the finish line? Round your answer to the nearest second.

Distance = Rate*Time

 

So:

 

Distance/Rate = Time

 

We know the distance (1500 m) and the Rate (130 kph).  We just need to put them into the same units:

• Distance = 1500 meters = 1.5 km
• Rate = 130 km/hour = (130 kph)/(3600 sec/hour) = .036 km/sec

 

Time = (1.5 km)/(.036 km/sec) = 42 sec (rounded to the nearest second)
