At the MC theater the first showing of a particular movie starts at 11:15 am. Each showing begins with 10 minutes of previews followed by the 105 minute featured movie. Twenty minutes are needed between showing to clean the theater and seat the audience. There are five showings of the movie prior midnight. According to a 12-hour clock what is the earliest possible time the last showing could begin?

In order to understand, you have to first find out how much time is in between the first and second movie showings to find the time pattern.

11:15AM (begin seating)

11:25AM (after previews & movie begins)

1:10PM (movie has ended)

1:30PM (next movie begins seating after 20 minute clean up)

* The total minutes between is 135 minutes which is two hours and fifth teen minutes long. *

The pattern is every two hours and fifth teen minutes.

1:30PM + 2:15 = 3:45PM

3:45PM + 2:15 = 6:00PM

6:00PM + 2:15 = 8:15PM

8:15PM + 2:15 = PM (this would be last showing before midnight)

Between each starting time is 135 minutes (10 + 105 + 20 = 135). Convert this into hours, it becomes 2.25 hours. So add 2.25 to 11:15am and work your way up to 5 showings.

11:15am + 2.25hrs = 1:30pm

1:30pm + 2.25hrs = 3:45pm

3:45pm + 2.25hrs = 6:00pm

6:00pm + 2.25hrs = 8:15pm
