Americans planted food gardens and stood in line for soup.
Some citizen organizations fed as many as they could daily.
Government started Social Security for the elderly.
Dust bowls forced average Americans hit by them to migrate to hoped for jobs.
Family heads joined hobos in riding the rails in search of work
Citizens helped each other and helped get through the transition out of the Great Depression,
especially after the banks failed..
