The peaceful resolution of the Cuban missile crises led to a lessening of tensions between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. The informal communications between the two powers demonstrated that communications could resolve issues between the two nations.
In the instance of the Cuban crises working through unofficial channels was found to be a more successful approach than through the usual diplomatic channels. It led to greater communications and more trust between the two superpowers. The U.S. agreed not to use Turkey as a site for our missiles, while Russia promised to remove their missiles from Cuba.
