We are going to walk back to what happened to the original price together. Here's how we do it. The original price, call it o, got multiplied by 5 and got divided by 100. Then, the result of this operation we just described got subtracted from the original price o to give us the final price which is $180. So now what we just said in English we are going to say in math-speak.

 

o - o*5/100= 180

0(1-5/100)=180

0=180/[1-(5/100)]

o=$189.47

Remember, this is the price for all three knifes. 189.47/3=$63.16 per knife.
