Physician in training helping students achieve their goals!
The human body contains several types of microbes within it. Most of these take the form of bacteria. In our bodies, bacteria serve many purposes and they do not always cause disease. In fact, the bacteria that live in our digestive tract help us immensely in our day-to-day lives. These bacteria are known as gut flora. They have functions ranging from digesting fiber to providing immunity against other pathogens. It's estimated that there are trillions of organisms in our gut flora. I would therefore argue that bacteria are the most important microbe in the human body.
